Summary

The au pair programme is a cultural exchange progamme whereby young people from another country come to the UK to live with a family and help out with children and light housework

Summary of Au Pair Programme

  • five hours work a day for five days a week ( more for au pair plus)
  • two evenings babysitting, one of which can be at the week-end, but not every Saturday
  • two whole days free and some evenings
  • enough free time to study or pursue other interests
  • own room with desk or table for studying
  • meals and pocket money of a minimum £65 per week for 25 hours
  • more pay for additional hours for EC applicants
  • the notice period is 2 weeks on either side
  • 1 week's paid leave after 6 months
The mother's help arrangement is a work programme where someone is employed to help with children and works according to a contract of employment
